WHAT COURSES WILL I STUDY?

A nursing student can typically expect to study anatomy and physiology, behavioral sciences, disease entities, pharmacology, nursing diagnosis, and treatment of patients among others.

DO I NEED TO DO ANY COMMUNITY SERVICE AFTER COMPLETION?

After completion of studies, new nurses are required to complete a one-year remunerated community service at a public health facility before entering the workforce.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A NURSING DEGREE AND A DIPLOMA?

After four years of study, students from the college and university graduate as Professional Nurses. The main difference between the diploma and the degrees is the academic level at which students complete their studies.

A B. Cur graduate will have an advantage when it comes to career development and specializing in a certain field of nursing. Bridging courses are available for college graduates to “top-up” their qualifications to a degree level to facilitate future career development.

A nursing training college provides a viable alternative to the student who is unable to afford university fees and provides the added advantage of allowing a student to study whilst being remunerated for the practical work. A university student is required to study full-time.

NURSING AS A CAREER OF CHOICE

Nursing is widely acknowledged as an essential component of healthcare delivery systems and offers exciting and varied career opportunities for those interested in providing healthcare to a community.

Nurses are required to provide care to individuals, groups, and communities using their acquired knowledge, skills and personal aptitudes. The nursing profession is regulated by the South African Nursing Council which is a Statutory Health Professional Council.

In the North West Province, Excelsius Nursing College provides nursing education and training that is nationally and internationally comparable. This is achieved by the application of appropriate teaching strategies and integration of new technologies.

The main campus is situated at Klerksdorp and is affiliated with North West University– Potchefstroom campus.
