Free State School of Nursing Application 2024, Your admission to the Free State School of Nursing (FSSON) is dependent on you meeting the specific general admission requirements for your chosen qualification.

If you don’t meet these requirements, you may want to consider alternative qualifications or possibly, if you qualify, an extended program (refer to the college admission requirements), enabling you to register for limited modules in your first year.

The School functions from the Idalia Loots Building and Benedictus Kok Building (Nursing Education Facility) on the Bloemfontein campus of the University of the Free State. On the campus map Idalia Loots is marked as 17a and Benedictus Kok as 42a.

 The Idalia Loots Building (left) comprises the offices of the management, lecturers, administration, and Academy for Continuous Nursing Development.

The Benedictus Kok Building (bottom) consists of lecture rooms 3, 4, 5, and 6, the SPACE, Authentic Learning Spaces for Simulation, skills laboratories, clinical placements, and administration.

The Free State School of Nursing (FSSON) is divided into 3 campuses, which are located in Bloemfontein, Qwa-Qwa, and Welkom.

The Free State School of Nursing (FSSON) offers the following courses:

Pre Registration Programmes
·   4 Year Course leading to registration as a Nurse (General, Psychiatric and Community) and Midwife
·   2 Year Course leading to registration as a General Nurse (Bridging Course)

Post Registration Programme
·   1 Year Midwifery

Post Basic Clinical Programme
·   1 Year Diploma in Medical-Surgical Nursing with specialization in Critical Care [General]

ACCESS CRITERIA

4-Year Course leading to registration as a Nurse (General, Psychiatric and Community) and Midwife

Matriculation or Senior Certificate before 2008
·   Grade 12/Senior Certificate or equivalent
·   2 Higher Grade Subjects (English must be on higher grade)
·   English score: D or better
·   M Score of 24 or higher
·   A Science subject

Senior Certificate of 2008 and thereafter
·   Grade 12 or Senior Certificate
·   English above 50%
·   APS of 24 [excluding life orientation]
·   A Science subject

2-Year Course leading to registration as a General Nurse (Bridging Course)
·   Grade 12/ Senior Certificate
·   Enrolled with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as an Enrolled Nurse

·   Study Leave from employer

1-Year Midwifery Programme

·   Appropriate Qualification in Nursing (Diploma/Degree)
·   Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse
·   Study Leave from the employer

1-Year Diploma in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science with specialization in Critical Care [General]

How to Pay Free State School of Nursing College Fees

Free State School of Nursing College fees can be informed of school fees, application fees, accommodation fees, tuition fees, examination fees, residential fees, fees statements, quotation fees, finance booklet, student fees, and other fee charges.

Payments to the school can be made in the form of a bank draft issued in the South African currency of “ZAR” and made payable to the Free State School of Nursing College, or by electronic transfer into the Free State School of Nursing College bank accounts.

  • Free State School of Nursing College reserves the right not to render services to students with outstanding balances.
  • Receipts and statements of accounts will be issued to registered students only. It remains the student’s responsibility to submit the document to the relevant sponsor.

Debit Cards

Debit card payments are only accepted if you register in person at Free State School of Nursing College

Credit Cards

Credit Cards are restricted to ‘Visa’ and ‘MasterCard’. All the requirements under ‘Particulars of payment’ on the registration form, must be supplied. The cardholder’s signature is also required on the registration form.

Bank deposits (SA Banks only) / EFT payments:

  • Should any of the information on the bank deposit slip be incomplete or incorrect the transaction will not be processed by the bank and/or cause a delay in the allocation of the funds to your account. Amounts will be allocated within 2 working days to the study fee account provided that all the information on the deposit slip is correct.
  • if you already have a student number;
  • in respect of student fees, examination fees (supplementary or special fees)
  • At any branch of Standard Bank (In the case of electronic transfers please ensure that the reference field is completed correctly).
