The University of South Africa (UNISA)[a] is the largest university system in South Africa by enrollment. It attracts a third of all higher education students in South Africa. Through various colleges and affiliates, UNISA has over 400,000 students, including international students from 130 countries worldwide, making it one of the world’s mega universities and the only such university in Africa.

Follow the steps below to complete your University of South Africa online application

  1. Visit the UNISA official website at www.unisa.ac.za
  2. Navigate to the Admission section
  3. Click on Apply
  4. Click on First-time UNISA applicant 
  5. Click on Start Process
  6. Fill out the application form
  7. Upload supporting documents
  8. Review and submit
  9. Pay the Application fee
  10. After submission, you can track the progress of your application online

First-time applicants to Unisa will be required to complete the First-Year Experience MOOC (massive open online course) before being able to accept Unisa’s offer

Documents For UNISA Online Application Form 2023

Documents you need for the University of South Africa online application;

  1. A copy of your ID document (RSA students) or ID/passport, for international students only
  2. Sworn translation of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans
  3. A copy of your school qualifications, Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate
  4. If applicable a copy of your marriage certificate or divorce decree (if applicable)
  5. A copy of your official tertiary academic record(s) (if necessary)

  • Make a payment of  R125.00 to First National Bank (FNB) or ABSA Bank branches.
  • Use the student number you receive from Unisa AND the application fee reference number (ie Your Student Number 5370810030)
  • Send the proof of payment to susdepid@unisa.ac.za.
