University of Western Cape Tuition and Fees Structure

All self-funded students are required to make a first fee payment (UPFRONT PAYMENT) towards fees BEFORE registration. This is a standard amount of R4290 (this includes the registration fee of R1590) that is applicable to all South African students. Students will not be able to register if this amount is not paid.

How much is the Tuition fee for Western University?

The Council of the University of the Western Cape (the “University”) reserves the right to revise all fees without prior notice.
TUITION FEES – INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Tuition fees are charged per module within a prescribed programme. Students, who register for more or fewer modules than prescribed, will be charged accordingly.

TERMS OF PAYMENT

  1. Personal liability will be attached to a registered student and/or his/her legal guardian for
    all tuition and accommodation fees, notwithstanding any award of a bursary that they may
    have received.
  2. The contract which forms part of the application form for admission to the University which
    was signed by the registered student and/or their legal guardian, legally binds these
    parties to pay the full tuition fees, accommodation fees and any ancillary costs for the year
    of registration as determined by the University.
  3. As a student’s fee account is linked to his/her academic record and accommodation
    choices, it shall be their responsibility to ensure and verify the accuracy and correctness of
    such information.
  4. All international students are required to pay the full tuition and residence fees upfront, on
    registration. The fees are based on international citizens (citizens of a country other than
    South Africa) rates unless the study programmes for which they are enrolling are marketed
    at a specific price.
  5. All SADC Students are required to pay the full tuition and full residence fees upfront, on
    every year of registration. The fees are based on the South African citizen rates unless the
    study programmes for which they are enrolling are marketed at a specific price.
  6. All African Non-SADC Students are required to pay the full tuition and full residence fees
    upfront, on every year of registration. The fees are based on the South African citizen
    rates unless the study programmes for which they are enrolling are marketed at a specific
    price.
  7. All Overseas International Refugee/Asylum Seeker Students are required to pay the
    full tuition and full residence fees upfront, on every year of registration. The fees are based
    on international citizen rates unless the study programmes for which they are enrolling are
    marketed at a specific price.
  8. All African Refugee/Asylum Seeker Students are required to pay the full tuition and full
    residence fees upfront, on every year of registration. The fees are based on the South
    African citizen rates unless the study programmes for which they are enrolling are
    marketed at a specific price.
  9. All Overseas International Students are required to pay the full tuition and full residence
    fees upfront, on every year of registration. The fees are based on international citizen rates
    unless the study programmes for which they are enrolling are marketed at a specific price.

ALL FEES ARE RAND DENOMINATED. THE US DOLLAR IS AN APPROXIMATION OF
THE RAND VALUE BILLINGS. The exchange rate is approximated at R16/$1.

Payment information:
Your student number must be used as a reference to ensure prompt credit allocation to
the student fees account.
Cheques and bank transfers must be made payable to the “University of the Western Cape”
A Service levy will be charged on cheques dishonoured by the bank and deregistration will
occur.
The University accepts Visa, MasterCard and American Express credit cards at the University
Cash Offices.
STUDENT CARD
A person who registers for the first time as a student is given a student card (photo identity
card). The student card is an electronic magnetic card, which identifies you as a student.
No student will be permitted to attend classes or write examinations without a student card. It
is therefore important that you safeguard your student card.
Returning students keep the student cards issued to them in their first year of registration and
are required to produce their student card on each concurrent registration in order to have it
renewed.
