APPLICATION PROCESS DURING 2023 FOR STUDIES IN 2024: BDatSci
(for students who are not registered for a degree in 2023 and who are in grade 12 in 2023)
Online application for undergraduate studies at Stellenbosch University opens on 4 April 2023 and closes on 31 July 2023.
The process is as follows:
All prospective BDatSci students should apply via the University’s portal for undergraduate study in 2024. You only need to apply for BDatSci under the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences (EMS). You do not need to select any focal area yet using this option. If you are certain of Computer Science or Applied Mathematics or Statistical Physics as focal areas, see below where to apply for any of these specific three focal areas.
Next year, in 2024, after your grade 12 results are known, you will have an opportunity to select the focal area of your choice after attending the compulsory information session about focal areas.
However, if you are already certain about any one of the 3 of the 8 focal areas, namely that of Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or Statistical Physics, you can apply under the Faculty of Science portal and select one of the 3 focal areas. However, we have seen students are not really certain and we recommend applying for BDatSci “General” under the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences.
So if you are uncertain about focal areas, go to the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences portal for applications and select BDatSci as a degree. This will be the bottom option under all BCom degrees of the drop-down box.
This means that if you wish to register for the focal area Geoinformatics under the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences or the focal area Statistical Genetics in the Faculty of AgriSciences or even for the 3 focal areas under the Faculty of Science, you apply just for BDatSci in the Faculty of EMS. After grade 12 results are known in 2024, you can still change to any focal area of your choice.
